"The true minister is Pedro"

A phrase attributed to a priest friend sums up the impression Pedro's dedication left on those who saw him work.

“I know I am the priest, but the true minister is Pedro.”

Among the family records, a phrase attributed to Vicente, a priest close to the family, sums up the impression Pedro left: "I know I am the priest, but the true minister is Pedro."

The tribute read at the seventh-day mass says the same in other words: an office everywhere; degree, child of God; specialty, kindness; instrument, love; consulting hours, no day and no hour. Medicine, for him, was also service.

This text is an editorial adaptation of an account preserved in the family compilation "Reminiscências de um Médico" (2008). It is autobiographical memory, not a medical record or medical advice.

Who created this memorial

Felipe Guedes did not grow up with his father. He knows Pedro through the stories, and loves him for them. What he keeps most is the doctor who treated for free those who could not pay: a way of looking at people, not at money, that Felipe carries with him.
