Reminiscences of a Doctor.
The document that keeps Pedro's own voice: professional episodes, articles, clippings, photographs and memories gathered by the family.

An archive before it was a book.
"Reminiscências de um Médico" works as a memory capsule. There are autobiographical pages, clinical cases told in the first person, newspaper clippings, articles, cards, advertisements and photographs, assembled in a family volume dated 18 October 2008, sixteen months before Pedro's death.
The value of the material lies in the mixture: the personal narrative sits beside the documents he produced or preserved over decades.
How the memorial uses the book
The stories published on this site are editorial adaptations of the episodes in the volume. We preserve the meaning of each account and avoid turning old medical observations into current advice. When a text is historical, it is treated as a document of its time.
A handwritten note records that the first stories were told by Pedro and by people close to him, and that newspapers and other items were lent to make up the collection. The book is a work of memory built by many hands.
Felipe Guedes did not grow up with his father. He knows Pedro through the stories, and loves him for them. What he keeps most is the doctor who treated for free those who could not pay: a way of looking at people, not at money, that Felipe carries with him.
