"You don't know her life"
A woman who brought her child to the office and could not always pay. Faced with criticism, Pedro answered with the sentence that sums up his way.
“You don't know her life, so don't criticise her.”
Pedro Moretti Guedes · Reminiscências de um Médico
A woman brought her son to the office and could not always pay for the visit. Someone close criticised: why see people who don't pay? Pedro's answer is recorded in the reminiscences: "You don't know her life, so don't criticise her."
The sentence sums up the kind of listening and respect that returns in every account, and that patients confirmed in the 2010 tribute: "he did not mind whether they were upper or lower class; what mattered to him was the patient's recovery".
This text is an editorial adaptation of an account preserved in the family compilation "Reminiscências de um Médico" (2008). It is autobiographical memory, not a medical record or medical advice.
