Lack of investment in health
Access, waiting times and infrastructure linked to insufficient public investment in health.
In 2006, Pedro linked three problems the patient feels directly, hard access, long waits and poor infrastructure, to a common cause: insufficient public investment in health. The text draws on the experience of a doctor who practised in Osasco and São Paulo to describe the network from within.
The debate on SUS funding was intense that year, with Constitutional Amendment 29 still unregulated. Pedro translates that technical debate for the neighbourhood reader: less money means fewer doctors, fewer beds and longer queues.
It belongs to the set of 2006 texts on public health, with "Public health, again", "Changes in health care" and "The hospital outpatient clinic".
