Public health, again

A continuation of his reflection on emergency care, hospitals and the organisation of the public system.

1 min read

The "again" in the title signals insistence. Pedro continues his reflection on emergency care, hospitals and the organisation of the public system, returning to points he had raised before and responding to what he saw change, or fail to change, in the network.

The focus is the overcrowded emergency room as a symptom of a primary care network that does not resolve. Someone who had worked at SAMDU and through night shifts knew that many emergency cases were, at root, an outpatient problem left unattended.

The implicit proposal is the same throughout the series: strengthen the front door, give the doctor time and build a bond with the patient. It was what he practised in Campo Limpo.

This article is part of the historical archive of Pedro Moretti Guedes. It should be read as a document of its time: Medicine, pharmacology and health recommendations have changed since publication.

Who created this memorial

Felipe Guedes did not grow up with his father. He knows Pedro through the stories, and loves him for them. What he keeps most is the doctor who treated for free those who could not pay: a way of looking at people, not at money, that Felipe carries with him.
