Timely considerations on cholesterol
A return to cholesterol, thirteen years after the first series, in the same popular health-education language.
Thirteen years after the "Does Cholesterol Kill?" series, Pedro returns to the subject. Much had changed: statins had become established, LDL targets had grown stricter and cardiovascular prevention had become public health policy. The 2005 text brings the reader up to date.
The language of popular health education remains. Pedro did not write to impress; he wrote to be understood by whoever read the paper at the bakery. The title, "Timely considerations", suggests a reply to something circulating in the press at the time.
To compare the two series is to watch Medicine change and his method stay: explain, give context, and hand the patient back the power to decide.
This article is part of the historical archive of Pedro Moretti Guedes. It should be read as a document of its time: Medicine, pharmacology and health recommendations have changed since publication.
