Reminiscences of a doctor's life

One of the texts in which Pedro turns clinical experience into narrative, preserving episodes of diagnosis and of his relationship with patients.

This 2007 article has the same spirit as the family compilation assembled in 2008, "Reminiscences of a Doctor". Pedro turns clinical experience into narrative: episodes of diagnosis, encounters with patients and what he learned from them.

It is Pedro the storyteller, the same one behind the ten stories on this memorial. Cases such as the 96-year-old Russian gentleman, the man who wanted to lose weight and the mother who sensed meningitis belong to this set of memories he began recording in his last years.

Publishing these reminiscences in a newspaper was also a way of teaching. Each case carries a lesson about clinical examination, listening and humility, told so that any reader could understand.

This article is part of the historical archive of Pedro Moretti Guedes. It should be read as a document of its time: Medicine, pharmacology and health recommendations have changed since publication.

Who created this memorial

Felipe Guedes did not grow up with his father. He knows Pedro through the stories, and loves him for them. What he keeps most is the doctor who treated for free those who could not pay: a way of looking at people, not at money, that Felipe carries with him.
